Maria & Doug’s Wedding Day Highlights
“So guys, we were thinking of incorporating this little movie called ‘Harry Potter‘ and incorporating a ‘for real real’ owl during cocktail hour at our wedding… how do you feel about being our wedding photographers?”
The best way I can describe Maria and Doug is to take my two hands and draw an air heart around the two of them. These two are quiet individuals but truly have so many passions in life and absolutely adore spending time with each other and their furbabies (remember their engagement session?).
These two decided to tie the knot at the beautiful John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove, but Maria started her day getting ready at Hilton Garden Inn with her bridesmaids. Hair and makeup by Daneene Jensen & Associates was on hand to beautify and help the ladies get ready for the day. I absolutely adore a bride who decides to go with bold beautiful red lips on her wedding day! They laughed and giggled and discussed which Disney princesses they were the most like and which stories made the most sense. Travis had a field day photographing the details of this wedding – the bride’s bouquet was made of custom paper flowers folded from pages from a Harry Potter Book! Crazy impressive! Also Doug’s boutonniere matched!
After getting dressed, the ladies made their way to John James Audubon Center for some pre-wedding photos. They caught a ride from Rhoads Limo on this unseasonably warm October day (it was so warm you probably could have ridden in a convertible!). We did some portraits of the woman – Maria and her bridesmaids in their David’s Bridal dresses – Maria’s designed by Oleg Cassini with a stunning tea length crop and V back! All the bridesmaids posed with Harry Potter books and the bride wore one of her two pairs of custom Harry Potter shoes. We finished their portraits and Maria retreated to the bridal suite just before Doug and his guys arrived to the campus.
Doug and his guys were not as outgoing as Maria and her crew, but they did look quite smart in their Men’s Wearhouse tuxedos and we did a few great photo opportunities of these guys laughing and joking in the wooded area of John James Audubon Center. Before we knew it, the guys made their way down to the Apple Orchard ceremony site so we could get Maria and Doug married! Naila Francis from Journey’s of the Heart officiated the small intimate ceremony. The duo shared a honey sweetened water ritual during the ceremony.
The day was perfect for portraits. There was a light haze in the air and when we placed Maria and Doug on the rolling hills of John James Audubon Center, they almost looked like they were in another world. They got to meet one of the resident owls during cocktail hour and pose for pictures with the little guy. It was a great touch to add to the bits of Harry Potter theme scattered throughout the day.
The reception hall was setup with centerpieces created by Maria. Each table had a pumpkin filled with flowers and unique fantasy table names. The cake, by Traub’s Bakery, had a WALL-E and EVE cake topper with purple and orange pipped flowers. Signature DJs was setup and ready to facilitate the evenings festivities. Jeffrey A. Miller provided the amazing food and drink for the evening. The light haze from the afternoon sun gave way to a breathtaking sunset… which quickly turned into a fierce downpour! I guess these two newlyweds will have the ultimate luck for their marriage with the amount of rain that fell in such a short period of time!
