My sister-in-law gave me a Page-A-Day Calendar for Christmas this year. The theme of the calendar is “Wine Lovers.” Perfect for me, right? It’s great because every day there is something new to read between pairings, quotes, and just fun. I thought I’d share this fun “fact.”
“Women rejoice! A study published in the Archieves of Internal Medicine in March 2010 found that women who drink a moderate amount of wine are less likely to become obese over time when compared to women who do not drink wine at all. In this 13-year study, 38 percent of women who did not drink alcohol failed the most weight over that time period. Those who drank red wine gained less than those primarily drank beer and spirits. While wine is obviously not a weight-loss aid, and should be enjoyed in moderation, studies consistently suggest that it can be part of a healthy diet and lifestyle, as it should be. So stop counting calories, ladies, and crack open that bottle of merlot.”
I’m not so sure it is really a “fact,” but I think what attributes to the weight gain is that women who don’t take the time to stop and have a drink, probably carry more stress in their lives. Stress = weight gain (and THAT is a well known fact). It goes along with the whole stop and smell the roses theory.
So, especially now that it is a New Year and I’m sure many of us have a resolution to hit up the gym more in 2012 (I know I do!), just remember to relax a little. A glass of wine after a long day isn’t going to completely muck-up your exercise regime… maybe it can help?
