Jaya & Matt’s Garba Celebration Highlights

Ready for more fun with Jaya and Matt? Jaya told us that the Garba might be her favorite event at a Gujarati wedding!
She promised us lots of dancing and jumping and spinning and hooting and live music and singing! Their Garba delivered on these promises and so much more.

We started the Garba event with a first look with Jaya and Matt. Such a wonderful look of happiness on his face when he saw her decked out from head to toe in her Garba outfit. Jaya looked radiant with her hair done by Kirsten Bonilla of Shear Brilliance Salon and makeup done by the talented Fawn Monique. Her outfit is slightly a “patchwork” style and her amazing jewelry came from Dubai! We spent an hour hidden away in the woods near Camelback Resort doing portraits of the almost-weds.

We entered the ballroom at Camelback Resort. to the decorations of blues and yellows and pinks. Elegant Affairs knocked it out of the park again with their design for the room, but we especially loved the lounge in the dance floor area! DJ Suhel provided the uplighting ambience for the Garba. Josh Musical USA was setup on the Garba stage ready to rock the night away for the dance crowd! Shayosa Events was on hand again to keep everything on task and perfect for the bride and groom.

After a quick introductory prayer and ceremony, the Garba dancing quickly got underway! The steps to the traditional dances were repetitive, so many guest caught on quickly and enjoyed the energetic and playful dancing routines that started the night. A couple toasts from Jaya’s brothers, as well as Matt’s best friend helped set the mood as Jaya surprised her husband-to-be with a choreographed dance. Jaya’s brother had the last laugh though when he surprised the almost-weds with a huge choreographed number in a tradition red costume! I can’t wait to see the look of surprise on their faces from the video by Ambrosial Films.

My favorite part of the Garba night was watching the wedding guests dance the Dandiya Raas. This folk dance is also known as the “stick dance” because all participants carry and tap two bamboo sticks together in time with the beat of the music. Jaya and Matt’s friends and family were very good at this and many people changed partners often which got a lot of smiles and lights from the guests. Well, check it out in their highlights! It was so much fun to watch!
