Rachel & Jon’s Wedding Day Highlights

So many awesome eccentric details from this wedding! I don’t know where to begin Rachel and Jon’s story.  We might start with how we met…  Rachel and Jon found us online and they requested we have a sit-down at their venue – which come to find out was Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia.  How cool! They pitched us the premise – good company, good food, and Reading Terminal Market all to themselves! Travis and I knew we’d be the perfect photographers for their wedding day (which was only a few months away). The next step in our journey was to travel to their home city (New York City) and photograph their engagement session in their neighborhood. Soon after we photographed their engagement session, it was time for Rachel and Jon’s wedding day.

A little rain has never stopped a wedding; and September 13’s rain was no exception to the rule. I caught up with Rachel and her ladies at Blo/Out Blow Dry Bar on Chestnut Street. They shared some laughs and champagne over the happenings of the past few days (lets say someone may or may not have ended up with a few staples in the scalp in the emergency room) as their hair and make-up was done to perfection.   Travis headed to the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown to catch up with Jon, the dog, and the turtle (he also photographed Rachel’s details). Rachel’s dress was gorgeous, a true family heirloom – completely remade (by the talented Shiny Thimble) to capture it’s 1944 and 1966’s charm. She topped her look with a vintage hairpiece and veil.  The buttons on the back of the dress were authentic, and it took a gaggle of female friends and relatives to get Rachel dressed and ready to go see Jon for their first look.

In between the rain clouds, we swept Rachel and Jon outside for their first look.  After a round of hugs, smiles, and tears, we completed family photos in the hotel lobby.  We strolled down the couple blocks to Reading Terminal where we took advantage of the empty building.  Have you ever been inside Reading Terminal Market? The normal experience is to be shoulder to shoulder with tourists and locals shopping for locally grown, made, and produced products. If you are lucky enough to visit this building after hours, it is very very quiet – and very empty – perfect for unique and wonderful photos.

Their ceremony took place in front of Bee Natural inside the market. Though it was not a religious ceremony, it had a few Jewish traditions incorporated to represent Rachel and Jon’s backgrounds. Once the ceremony was done, food was served! And oh was there food! Guests were handed a map letting them know which venders were open for dinner. Food ranged from Turkey with gravy to classic Philly cheesesteaks. Food included Spataro’s, Mezze, the Original Turkey, Tootsie’s Salad Express, Beck’s Cajun Cafe, and DiNic’s – if you left hungry, it was your own fault!  Molly Malloys was open to provide beverages and a gathering spot for guests.  The seating area near the giant pig was transformed into reception seating complete with table clothes and custom center pieces (created by Rachel) for each table.  After food, guests danced the night away to the beats of Silver Sound by DJ Dan Breslin.  Guests enjoyed our open air Photo Booth with props provided by us and the bridal couple.  The wedding events were coordinated by All About Events‘ Sarah Morrison. The amazing cake and baked desserts were created by Flying Monkey Bakery, though there was also ice cream provided by Bassetts.

It was certainly a night to remember at the Reading Terminal Market!
